The Lost Sunway

Reclaiming a lost vision: The Napút (Sunway) My artistic journey has always been a dialogue between my Hungarian roots and the vast, transformative landscapes of my adopted home in Australia. In my previous series, Hungarian Outlaws, Betyárs, I explored the multiplicity of vision and awareness by painting over historical fragments—reclaiming the stories of those who lived on the fringes of society. With The Lost Sunway, I turn my attention toward the 'lost third' of Tivadar Csontváry Kosztka’s oeuvre. Csontváry sought a physical and spiritual essence of light, which he called the Napút (Sunway). Today, dozens of these visions exist only as facsimiles or empty descriptions in museum archives. From Brushstrokes to Steel
Painting was always about gesture and emotion for me, but my creative journey has taken a new turn. From expressive brushwork, I’ve recently shifted my focus to working with steel. I began to feel limited by the flatness of the canvas — I wanted to work with something that pushed back, something more physical. That "something" turned out to be steel. In the heart of the Australian Blue Mountains, nestled among the towering gum trees, stands my art studio. The land, with its vastness and peculiar beauty, had captivated me from the moment I set foot on it. Here, amidst the cacophony of cicadas and the occasional cry of a distant kookaburra, I find the freedom to create. My studio, a modest tin shed with sun bleached walls seems almost an extension of the land itself. Here I make my journey into the heart of my creative process, showing how personal experiences shape my bold artistic vision.

In the heart of the South Pacific, amid the turquoise waters and emerald-green islands of Fiji, there existed a world far removed from 'everything that is artificial and conventional' of urban life. It was here that I sought inspiration beyond the confines of my studio. My journey began with a quest for authenticity, a desire to immerse myself in cultures untouched by the modern world. I embarked on an adventure to explore the remote island villages of Fiji, where traditions were woven into the very fabric of daily life. My first encounter was with the village of Yageta, nestled amidst rolling hills and...
